Reading load is heavy this semester.
I'm still good at procrastinating.
Here's a good read:

Tom, I read that article in the mag. It was thought provoking.
ReplyDeleteYeah, people are sheep right?
But here's an idea. Maybe it's more important than just that though...
People are just people.
Is it important or just another platitude?
Chris,
ReplyDeleteThe point you bring up is very important to that article indeed. What I also need to bring into view is the fact that even Adbusters seems to have failed to make a comment that can be ascertained to the entire hipster population. It leaves readers with a perspective on a specific sect of hipsterdom that indulges in American Apparel fashion and counterculture values.
Another problem is that counterculture values are so broad and plural that they often conflict with each other, rather than presenting themselves as a singular entity that can be recognizable when defined by a journalist that wishes to seek out and alienate these well-intended individuals. It says nothing about the hipster's lack of confidence in a single way of life while mocking him as a sheep that has followed a flock that is made up of different counterculture elements, pointing to the hipster as a creature of absolute collective strategy, lacking originality and passion.
I know many a person that can be recognized as a hipster by aesthetic definition, but their souls all have differing intention. This article fails to recognize that.
